Autism Service
* New clients: I am currently booking in March 2025.*
As a registered occupational therapist (Ontario), I help autistic clients recover from eating disorders, navigate mental health challenges, build life skills, better understand their sensory needs, and participate more fully in their lives and communities.
Occupational Therapy Services
-
Self-Regulation
We work on calming strategies, dealing with unexpected situations, routine building and identifying sensory needs. I also focus on emotional regulation (identifying and understanding emotions, and learning strategies to cope).
-
Sensory Needs
Identifying sensory over or under sensitivities, which may include oral motor (mouthing), sound or touch sensitivity, poor visuospatial awareness, picky eating or food aversion.
-
Routine
We work on creating healthy habits for daily life by building routines for a variety of situations. This may include visual schedules for trips to the doctor/dentist, going to a movie or social event, and sleep hygiene.
-
Cognitive
We work on executive functions (ex. planning, working memory, organization and time management), sequencing, attention and focus, and learning. I teach cognitive behavioural and sensory strategies to manage anxiety.
-
Anxiety
We work on practical strategies for managing anxiety in a variety of situations, both through cognitive and sensory strategies. For teenagers, this often revolves around social situations.
-
Social Interactions
We practice a variety of social situations that evoke anxiety. For those with autism, this can mean practicing what to say, questions to ask, how to respond to others and what to expect in a given situation.
Some of the above skills are best practiced in real life situations, so I always try to create groups of similar-aged clients who want to meet and practice skills together. This can be done virtually and/or in downtown Toronto, Ontario.
